I was inspired to write this post by the super cute Haley over at Naturally Sweet. I have had it ready thinking I would have something else to add, but that has not happened and if I don't post soon... I never will.

In Haley's post; she talked about the documentary "Super Size Me"... you can click on the link above to see what all she has to say about it.

In a nutshell she talks about how D is viewed. This is a HUGE topic around the DOC... and for good reason.

The point is... at the end she asks this question... "If someone went to Times Square and gave them this little quiz what do you think the results would be?"

How does someone get type 1 diabetes?

a) From being fat
b) Hereditary or other unknown causes that have nothing to do with life style choices
c) I don’t know

d) other

Here was my response: Their answer would be A for sure. It sucks, but that's just the reality of it all.

I wish that I could say I was not one of those people that would have answered "A" a few years ago, but I can't.

Times are changing though... I can feel it

In defense of my ignorance... no one really talked about D when I was Haley's age. I went to high school with two T1's(that I know of)... One I cheered with(and roomed with at camp) and one I talked to in history my whole junior year. I didn't even know he was diabetic until recently when my husband went hunting with him and made the connection that we knew each other.

I am SO guilty of thinking the same things that I try and educate against today. So I understand. I get it. I get BOTH sides of it.

HOWEVER, as I told Haley... "I think that times are changing".

-I believe they are changing because we are no longer afraid to stand up and talk about the monster that haunts us.

-I believe they are changing because we are now realizing that it is okay to stand up and educate for ourselves and for our children.

-I believe they are changing because we know that education is the ONLY chance we have of finding a cure.

-I believe they are changing because WE REFUSE TO HIDE from the stereotype the media and ancient belief has put upon us.

I believe they are changing because WE ARE STRONGER THAN DIABETES.

I believe they are changing because there is a force of D Mamas and PWD's determined to make it happen. I stand beside Haley, Laura and Nicole  and everyone else who's taking a stand and trying to make a difference.

There will always be stereotypes, but we will overcome them. One stereotype at a time. Everyday. Until the day we don't have a reason to fight anymore. On that day... there will be a cure.

Wazzup Wednesday...

Wazzup Peeps?
It's that time again... Man did this week go by fast! What do you suppose has been happening around our house?
Let's see...

Justin had an Endo appointment today. His A1C was a "not-so-shabby" 6.7.

I'll take it since I have seen non-insulin-budging numbers in the upper 300 and 400 for the last 6 days. We also experienced our first "HIGH" on the meter since diagnosis(that one was actually a bad site... but still).

The TV in our family room broke so I have not been able to do my Latin hip shaking... dancing with the stars exercise video in the last few days. But I have been good with eating. I hope to be doing the Meringue again as soon as we get a new bulb :)

TWILIGHT!!! EEEEK!!!!
I have watched those damn movies several times since Friday. Anthony is ready to scream.

I however, LOVE THEM and could not believe I got any response at all about that last post. I have to admit... though I am not going to leave team Edward... Jacob is HOT!!!!

AND, I am listening to your suggestions about the books... turns out... my friend has all four books and said I could use them... so I have one question...

Should I start at the beginning or should I jump right to Breaking Dawn to find out what happens next?
PLEASE... I need your help on this.

Around the D.O.C
There are TWO... YES, I said TWO giveaways this week.
This weeks Sugar Bolus is being hosted by...

And a two year D-Aversary giveaway is happening at...

SWEETNESS!!!! That's all I have to say :)
Well I think thats it... please let me know if I missed anything.

Hooked...

I've never been the type to get hooked on certain "hyped up" movies such as Harry Potter(no thanks), Star Trek(not.so.much) Etc... you get the picture. I have always been a sucker for a good love story or love/comedy; like Hope Floats, The Notebook, How to loose a guy in 10 days and all the other mushy, the girl gets the guy, make you feel all good kinda stuff.

So when all the Twilight hype started I took my usual "who cares" approach. I had no desire to watch it, not into vampires and wolves, bla bla bla.

Well... a few weeks ago I caught the last half of Twilight because it came on Showtime and the curiosity to how the movie started was born.

This brings me to this past weekend(Friday to be exact). The family went out to Buffalo Wild Wings and we ran into some friends. OF COURSE we crashed their dinner and we all sat an caught up. During dinner, I asked if she has seen any of the Twilight movies. She not only seen them... she has them ALL on DVD. Hello!

Long story short... we stopped by her house so I could borrow the movies.

That night both the kids wanted to watch... with a little hesitation on the matter, I agreed. The first movie was Great. I kept thinking that I should have watched that a damn long time ago. After it was over... I put the kids to bed and was like... shit, my ass is wide awake... I just throw in New Moon and even if I fall asleep... I finish tomorrow.

FALL ASLEEP MY ASS!!! Though New Moon is not my fav... at the end... I was left ready for more.

So there I was... should be sleeping because I don't get a whole lot of that and its like 2am... but NO! I HAVE TO KNOW! And at that point... wide ass awake... I slip Eclipse into the DVD player.

Yes! At this point I realize that I have serious issues :/

At the end of Eclipse, I was still left wanting more. I seriously can't wait until the next one comes out. And, at this point, if I had to choose, Eclipse would have to be my favorite of the three so far. However, don't forget that the first one had me hooked so it is pretty up there in the "that's a good movie" category.

Definite intense love story that makes you want more.

I leave this post (that came out of left field) with these words of admittance...

Hi! My name is Lora and
I AM SO TEAM EDWARD!

Wazz up Wednesday...

Wazz up peeps?? It's time for a quick "Wazz up Wednesday" wrap up.

Ricki Lake makes a boo boo on Good Morning America when she referred to Juvenile Diabetes as "preventable". (Tisk Tisk Ricki!) BUT! She has posted on GMA website, Twitter and Facebook about her mistake(thanks Ricki).  It just so happens that R.L. herself will be on Joy Behar show at 9 PM (EST)... tonight. Rumor has it that Ricki will be making a correction AND GMA will be clearing up the misinformation in the morning. I am SO glad I am off. I will be anxiously waiting to see what she/they have to say. Will you be watching with me??

This weeks Sugar Bolus is a New Year's treat and its happening over at Candy Hearts Blog. (hehe... one more chance for me to win cuz I blogged!!)

A super duper CONGRATS to all my friends who won a D.O.C. award. They are all well deserved if I do say so myself.

As for me and my "moving forward resolution of sorts"... I went to church this past Sunday. I have backed off my Coke addiction(had one on Monday to tame the pounding headache) and I have been eating better for the most part. I have not started any re-organization projects YET because I have simply not been home... However, unless I get called in to work tomorrow... that should change.

I am pretty sure there is so much more going on around the DOC, but Mizz Lora is super behind on reading(I am ashamed). Please feel free to leave a comment if there is something I forgot.

From the mouth of yours truly...

-I use to rock it with my tight rolls and my Members Only jacket.

-You've gotta kick it out wide and work the hips.

-This here is the "butterfly"... only white girl style :/

-You lay pipe like nobodies biz-ness.

-I think the grill just took off half of my eyebrows

-Your like the nugget that wont come off the dogs ass

-I'm thinking that gaining weight is not helpful when wearing stripper shoes.

-You don't give me chills... its more like a tic because you stress me out.

-You have officially lost all your pancreatic decision making rights.

-I think the Lollipop in my mouth will last longer than that will.

That's all I have for now... what have YOU said lately?
