Did you know???

I am a ride/roller coaster junkie! If there is a ride in site... I am on it! (only exception would be the Gravitron... holy hurl!) My kids do not fall far from the tree when it comes to thrill seeking rides either.

However, I was reading a newsletter that I received from Animas. This thought would have never crossed my mind, so I thought it was important to share with all the other pumpin ride junkies.

COPIED FROM THE ANIMAS NEWSLETTER...
Are you planning a trip to an amusement park? Remember to take precautions to be sure that your pump is protected during your trip. Very powerful electromagnets are sometimes used on "free-fall" amusement park rides. Pumps should be removed and not taken on these "free-fall" types of rides. High gravity forces can be experienced when riding on some roller-coasters. It is recommended that you disconnect (NOT just suspend) your pump while on roller-coaster rides. Contact your health care provider for further recommendations regarding possible changes to your insulin needs at amusement parks.

I guess this is why I SHOULD always read the instructions?!?!

I did know that. BUT, I am JUST now remembering this again. We just went to Disneyland and I completely forgot while we were there!

Hopefully the tame coaster The Superhero went on wasn't enough to worry about.

Goes to show, that even if I KNEW, it didn't matter. LOL! I forgot anyway.

I've read/heard that, but my son hasn't got "there" yet. I will ride ANYTHING! I went on an all-day Gravitron marathon one day when it was at a local fair! :)

Interesting!
I, too, am a ride junkie...Ubergeek avoids them at all costs and Bean has inherited his disdain for them. As she says, "we're not high people" because neither of them likes heights and most rides have some height to them!

What???? I wonder if this is all pumps?? I have NEVER heard of this before...I have also taken my medtronic pump on MANY rides and I've never had a problem...

We were told about this when we first started pumping from our Animas rep. For future reference cuz he was (and still is) too young for the big rides.
I used to LOVE rides but I get too sick from them now. Darn old age!!! ;-)

I think the entire concept is that the pumper could get a giant bolus without knowing. With the forces on these giant coasters, it has happened. We take them off for a few of the biggies...it is a pain in the butt when the line is really long before though. There have been times I had to prebolus an hours worth of basals before letting J get in line for a coaster.

For me, I HATE the swoosh of my stomach falling...that big drop in the beginning of all the rides...THAT is what I hate! The twists and the hoops and everything else I love...but the drop...nothankyou!

I heard this before, but I'm really glad you posted it. It's important info, and I'll keep it in mind for the future. Jack is an adrenaline junkie!

We did know this, we went to DisneyLand last summer, on roller coaster type rides we had her unhook the tubing from her site, but still wear the pump in her pack, we were told that sharp turns and loops could force insulin from the tubing into the site and cause lows. On the big free fall rides like tower of terror that use big magnets we took the pump off put it in a big ziplock bag with our info written on it and the ride operators' would hold onto it for us. We were told those big magnets could mess up the computer stuff inside the pump.

Thank you for the reminder! Joe never goes on anything too wild yet. I know ~ shocker. Anyway, this reminder is such a big help to so many I am sure. I wonder what the Omnipod users do? If the Pod is "fine" on those rides or not?

You are one wild chick in hot stripper shoes Lora!

I had NO idea!! We just got back from Disney, and rode the Tower of Terror three times! That is scary-I won't take her pump on it again, thanks!!! HOlly

Very interesting! I didn't know that and have stayed connected on plenty of rides.

I LOVE ROLLER COASTERS TOO!

And I've heard this, but I haven't really thought much of it, because we haven't been to an amusement park recently. About 3 years ago, we went to Disney, but never took her pump off. She rode the Tower of Terror, but everything was okay...WHEW!

Good to know!
